Alcitron Terms of Service
Alcitron hosts business e-mail. These terms explain what you can expect from it, what you answer for and what is not allowed.

What Alcitron is
Alcitron hosts e-mail for organisations on the domains they control: it receives, filters, stores and sends their messages, reachable through standard protocols such as SMTP and IMAP and through webmail. A domain is activated only after you publish the DNS records the service asks for, and keeping them right is up to you.
Every message, in or out, is checked automatically for spam and malicious software and may be rejected, delayed or marked. The filters are automatic and imperfect: a legitimate message may be caught and an unwanted one may get through.
Delivery is not guaranteed
E-mail depends on the internet, on DNS and on the recipients’ servers and filters, none of which we control. We do not guarantee that a message will be delivered, delivered on time or placed in the inbox rather than the spam folder, nor that our servers will never appear on a blocklist.
Nor can we guarantee that stored messages will never be lost or damaged: keep your own copies of what you need, for example by synchronising your mailboxes with an e-mail client.
Your organisation, your mailboxes
You decide who gets a mailbox and you answer for what is sent from it. You must be entitled to use each domain you add, keep passwords strong and private, change any that may have leaked, and follow the rules on e-mail, unsolicited messages and data protection that apply to you.
Each domain gets the addresses postmaster@ and abuse@, which must keep receiving mail so that notices about the domain reach you; read them. Mail is sent only from one’s own address or from aliases that deliver to it, and only over encrypted connections.
If someone claims against us because of messages sent from your mailboxes or because of your domains, you answer for it.
No spam, no abuse
Not allowed: unsolicited bulk or commercial mail, or mail to lists that were bought, rented or harvested; phishing, fraud or forged senders; malicious software; unlawful content, content that infringes others’ rights, or harassment; running an open relay or a mass-mailing service, or dodging other providers’ filters; getting into other mailboxes or around the service’s security or limits.
We may limit the number and size of messages and the storage of mailboxes. To protect the service, its users and its servers’ reputation, we may stop sending from a mailbox or domain, suspend it or the account, or reject messages, without notice when it is urgent.
Plans and payment
We may accept or decline an application to open an account. Plans and prices are the ones shown or agreed when you subscribe. Card and PayPal payments go through PayPal: card details are entered with PayPal, not with us.
Monero payments go to an address created for each order, for the amount shown at the exchange rate of the moment, which holds until the order expires; network fees are the payer’s, and a Monero transaction cannot be reversed. If a Monero payment falls short, overpays or arrives after the order expired, we refund the difference or credit it to your account, as agreed with you.
A subscription renews until you cancel it from your client area. Apart from the case above, payments are not refunded, except where the law says otherwise. If your allowance shrinks, because a plan ends or a payment fails, the newest domains and mailboxes beyond it stop working until it covers them again; their stored data is not deleted for that reason.
Your messages
Your messages are yours. We store and transmit them only to run the service, and we open their content only when needed to provide it or the support you ask for, to investigate abuse or a security incident, or because the law requires it.
Before removing a domain or mailbox, or closing the account, retrieve what you want to keep: once removed, its messages may be deleted and cannot be recovered.
No guarantees
Alcitron is provided as it is. Maintenance, incidents and events beyond our control may interrupt it, and we do not guarantee that it will always be available or free of errors.
We are not liable for indirect losses, nor for messages lost, delayed, rejected or filtered, for blocklistings, for what users send or receive, or for the effects of your DNS records. In any case, our liability is limited to what you paid us in the last twelve months, or USD 100 if you paid nothing. None of this limits what the law does not allow to be limited.
Changes and contact
We may change the service and these terms. The current version is always the one on this page, with its date. Spam, phishing or other abuse sent from the service: abuse@alcitron.com. Anything else: postmaster@alcitron.com.
